Established by television cameraman Mark Smith

British television has an undisputed reputation for producing the most exciting and original programmes anywhere in the world. But broadcasting is changing faster than ever. The internet, mobile phones, tapeless technology and YouTube are revolutionising the acquisition and delivery of content, but at the core of any quality program is well crafted video material.
Working as a cameraman and film maker over the past 15 years Mark has worked across all genres and shot news, documentary and drama on HD, digibeta and DV. He has seen more and more journalists and production staff being asked to shoot (and edit) for broadcast and online with little training or support. For the last 9 years he has worked with other broadcast professionals and media organisations to deliver a variety of camera and edit courses to production staff, journalists and DV directors to ensure that craft skills are not lost but updated for the 21st century.
After the very successful camera project for ITV News in 2009 Camerasmith has been asked to extend the training to include all of ITV's regional correspondents as well. Mark and Tony will be working throughout 2011 at Meridian, Southampton to plan and implement a complete self shooting course for all 68 journalists. Mark has recommended a camera kit that includes the Sony EX1R to enable ITV to shoot tapeless for the first time with the benefit of faster import times and the ability to switch to HD in the near future.
STV are launching a new, more local news service and utilising video journalists for the first time. Mark will be working with them over the next two months to train up 6 of their experienced reporters to self shoot on Sony Z5. For photos look at the latest gallery page.
During 2010 Camerasmith has been working with Sharjah TV in the UAE to plan and deliver camera equipment upgrade and associated training for the 38 strong camera department. Sharjah TV is in the process of upgrading it's entire technical workflow from SD with linear edit suites to HD tapeless and non linear edit suites. Panasonic P2 was preferred for the camera format.
Throughout 2009 Camerasmith was employed by ITV News to camera enable all their regional reporters. This involved specifying camera and edit kits, including the Sony Z5 camera recording tapeless; laptops with Avid Media Composer and the ability to send packages remotely. And then to design and implement a two-month training course for all 94 reporters around the UK including a mentor scheme to support them in the field.
